Sudan expels head of UN Population Fund
|
Khartoum-The Sudanese Foreign ministry announced, on Wednesday, that it has expelled Pamela DeLargy, an American who was in charge of the UN Population Fund in Sudan over accusations of intervention in internal affairs of the country.
In a statement, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abu-Bakr Al-Siddiq, said that the government has informed the UN Representative to Sudan that this step was not targeting the UN Population Fund, and that Sudan is keen to continue its cooperation with the Fund.
Pamela DeLargy has worked as head of the UN Population Fund in Khartoum for around 3 years and a half. Last time, she was given a one-year residence by the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry Rahamtalla Osman who interfered to end a three-month crisis during which the authorities refused to allow her in Khartoum airport while s coming from a work assignment in India as she was on entry ban list, according to source.
The head of the peace and humanitarian affairs in the Sudanese Foreign Ministry ambassador Adil Basheer has asked Pamela DeLargy to leave the country before the 7th of April a matter that pushed UN officials to rush her departure last Monday evening.
Ambassador Al-Siddiq said that the government informed the UN Representative that Sudan is ready to receive an alternative to Ms. Pamela DeLargy and to cooperate with him according to the valid laws in Sudan and the agreements between Sudan and the UN agencies
