Responding to Rice Claims: Foreign Ministry Affirms that Rebel movements Are Instigating Dispute and Impeding Humanitarian Aid

Khartoum, June 26 (SUNA)- The government pointed out that the humanitarian situation in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile States is generally witnessing no problems, excluding at limited areas under the control of the rebel movements which have impeded implementation of the tripartite initiative for delivering humanitarian aid to the affected citizens at these areas, referring in this connection to a testimony given in this regard by the Assistant UN Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos.

Responding to a question of Sudan News Agency (SUNA) concerning claims of the US envoy to the UN, Susan Rice, on the humanitarian situation at the two areas and continuity of conflict in Darfur, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador Abu-Bakr Al-Siddiq, said that the armed movements that did not sign Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, who members in the so-called Revolutionary Movement, are responsible for instigating conflict in Darfur, but not the government which had adopted serious steps for implementing the peace agreement.
On a claim raised by Susan Rice on Sudan government violation of the cooperation agreements that it has signed with South Sudan State, ambassador Al-Siddiq said that Sudan government is calling for comprehensive and simultaneous implementation of the agreements, indicating the decision of Sudan government to stop the crossing of South Sudan oil was based on its rejection to the dealing with the cooperation agreement in selectivity and because South Sudan government remained supporting to the Sudanese armed movements.
Ambassador Al-Siddiq said that there is chance in the current time for enhancing the relations between Sudan and South Sudan State after acceptance of the two countries to the proposals forwarded by the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel for Sudan, and the welcome of Sudan to a visit due to take place next week by the Vice-President of South Sudan government, Dr. Riek Machar, adding that Sudan was expecting the US administration to welcome and encourage these efforts to surpass the current situation, instead of its flagrant bias against Sudan.
He added that the US administration should have canceled its illegal economic and trade sanctions against Sudan, which are impeding the efforts for realizing development and providing better services, if it is really keen on enhancement of the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
